The most common side effects when using tadalafil are headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, flushing, and stuffy or runny nose. These side effects reflect the ability of PDE5 inhibition to vasodilate (cause blood vessels to widen) and usually go away after a few hours. Back pain and muscle aches can occur 12 to 24 hours after taking the drug, and the symptom usually disappears after 48 hours.

Medicines called nitrates include nitroglycerin that is found in tablets, sprays, ointments, pastes, or patches. Nitrates can also be found in other medicines such as isosorbidedinitrate or isosorbide mononitrate. Some recreational drugs called "poppers" also contain nitrates, such as amyl nitrite and butyl nitrite. Do not use CIALIS if you are using these drugs. Although Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis all work by inhibition of PDE5, tadalafil's distinguishing pharmacologic feature is its longer half-life (17.5 hours) compared with Viagra and Levitra (4-5 hours). This longer half-life results in a longer duration of action and is, in part, responsible for the Cialis nickname of the "weekend pill." This longer half-life also is the basis of current investigation for tadalafil's use in pulmonary arterial hypertension as a once-daily therapy. At present, sildenafil (trade name Revatio) is approved in various regions worldwide as a 3-times daily therapy for pulmonary arterial hypertension.

These side effects reflect the ability of PDE5 inhibition to vasodilate (cause blood vessels to widen) and usually go away after a few hours. Back pain and muscle aches can occur 12 to 24 hours after taking the drug, and the symptom usually disappears after 48 hours.
Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Cialis.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with Cialis. Discuss the use of grapefruit products with your doctor. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.

Cialis relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body. It is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor.
Take Cialis exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Taking this medication in larger doses will not make it more effective, and could cause dangerous side effects.
Individual results may vary. In clinical trials, CIALIS was shown to improve, up to 36 hours after dosing, the ability of men with ED to have a single successful intercourse attempt. CIALIS has not been studied for multiple sexual attempts per dose.
CIALIS is available by prescription only. For additional safety information, talk to your doctor about this medicine and see the full Patient Information.
Sudden loss or decrease in hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears and dizziness, has been reported in rare instances in men taking prescription ED tablets, including CIALIS. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly to the PDE5 inhibitors, to other diseases or medications, to other factors, or to a combination of factors. If you experience these symptoms, stop taking CIALIS and contact a doctor right away.

Cialis is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). It works by helping to increase blood flow into the penis during sexual stimulation. This helps you to achieve and maintain an erection.
Do not take Cialis if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems, including nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket), or recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers") Taking Cialis with a nitrate medicine can cause a serious decrease in blood pressure, leading to fainting, stroke, or heart attack.

Take one CIALIS tablet before sexual activity. In some patients, the ability to have sexual activity was improved at 30 minutes after taking CIALIS when compared to a sugar pill. The ability to have sexual activity was improved up to 36 hours after taking CIALIS when compared to a sugar pill. You and your doctor should consider this in deciding when you should take CIALIS prior to sexual activity. Some form of sexual stimulation is needed for an erection to happen with CIALIS. CIALIS may be taken with or without meals. Do not change your dose of CIALIS without talking to your doctor. Your doctor may lower your dose or raise your dose, depending on how your body reacts to CIALIS.
Do not drink alcohol to excess when taking CIALIS (for example, 5 glasses of wine or 5 shots of whiskey). When taken in excess, alcohol can increase your chances of getting a headache or getting dizzy, increasing your heart rate, or lowering your blood pressure. If you take too much CIALIS, call your doctor or emergency room right away.
Do not take Cialis if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems, including nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket), or recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers") Taking Cialis with a nitrate medicine can cause a serious decrease in blood pressure, leading to fainting, stroke, or heart attack.
take any medicines called nitrates. Nitrates are commonly used to treat angina. Angina is a symptom of heart disease and can cause pain in your chest, jaw, or down your arm. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure if any of your medicines are nitrates

Since PDE5 inhibitors such as tadalafil may cause transiently low blood pressure (hypotension), organic nitrates should not be taken for at least 48 hours after taking the last dose of tadalafil. Using organic nitrites (such as the sex drug amyl nitrite) within this timeframe may increase the risk of life-threatening hypotension.
Since people who have taken tadalafil within the past 48 hours cannot take organic nitrates to relieve angina (such as glyceryl trinitrate spray), these patients should seek immediate medical attention if they experience anginal chest pain.[6] In the event of a medical emergency, paramedics and medical personnel should be notified of any recent doses of tadalafil.
